Text Box: Description   Unicoat Smooth  Elastomeric Coating is a 100% acrylic elastomeric resin coating for exterior use on above grade walls and previously coated surfaces. It can also be used to paint over E.I.F.S., old stucco, concrete surfaces, and all Unicoat base coats.   Approved Substrates   Unicoat Smooth Elastomeric Coating can be applied over new and old stucco, concrete and masonry surfaces, painted surfaces (flat finish), and any primed metal or wood surface. When painting over new stucco and concrete surfaces, it is always recommended that walls be cured out completely and a coat of Unicoat Surface Primer 865 be applied. Make sure surfaces are clean before applying coating.   Surface Preparation   All surfaces must be sound, clean and free of all dust, dirt, oils, grease, laitance, efflorescence, mildew, fungus or ay biological residues or chemical contaminations. Clean surface using high-pressure washer.  Surface should have texture similar to 100 grit sandpaper.  Some stains and surface contaminates may require chemical removal.  Make sure all chemical cleaners are cleaned off surface and surface is allowed to dry before proceeding.   Remove all blisters, loose or delaminated areas.  Sand or grind the edges of previous coating to insure adhesion and  smooth transition of new coat.    All chalky surfaces should be washed and treated with Unicoat Surface Primer 865.  According to ASTM D 4214, test method A, a surface is considered chalky on a black cloth, which has been rubbed on the clean surface has visible residue on greater than # 8.  Apply Unicoat Surface Primer 865 if chalk residue rates # 6 after water cleaning.   For cracks smaller than 1/32” do not patch, coating will bridge and fill these cracks.  For cracks larger than 1/32” up to 1/16”, brush Unibond Smooth over crack.  For cracks larger than 1/16” up to 1/4” apply Unibond Smooth with a layer of fiberglass mesh tape.  For cracks larger than 1/4”, crack should be treated as standard sealant joint following sealant manufacture’s instructions.   Mixing and Application   Unicoat Smooth Elastomeric Coating should be mixed in its own container using a low rpm drill mixer to ensure color uniformity and minimize air entrapment. In multi-pail applications boxing of pails is recommended to ensure color consistency and smooth transition from pail to pail.  When boxing, mix contents of each new pail into the partially used pail.   Do not dilute this product with more than one quart of clean water.   Apply in one coat at 20 mils wet film thickness over existing coatings and or over Unicoat Surface Primer 865.   More than one coat may be needed over drastic color differences or if no primer was used. this product can be applied by brush, roller, and spray methods.   Brush Application by brush is only recommended for small inaccessible areas and for touching up and cutting around non-painted surfaces.  Use a nylon brush only.   Roller Use a 3/4”nap roller cover (lambs wool is preferred).  Completely saturate the roller and keep it loaded with the coating to build up required mils.  Never dry roll and keep application strokes uniformly vertical or horizontal to ensure color uniformity.   Spray Use an airless type sprayer.  Suggested equipment characteristic are 3/4”gallon per minute spray rate, 2000-psi pump pressure ant tip sizes between 0.020” and 0.025” Some surfaces will require back rolling after spray application to ensure better coverage on rough textures.   Dry Time and Shelf Life   Unicoat Smooth Elastomeric Coating should be stored in a cool dry place, away from direct sunlight and protected from extreme heat and freezing conditions. Always keep container closed when not in use. Unicoat Smoot Elastomeric Coating has a shelf life of 12 months when these directions are followed.   Coverage   Unicoat Smooth Elastomeric Coating covers approximately 60-80 square feet per gallon depending on porosity of surface. Drying time is 5 hours at 70° f if applied at 20 mils wft. recoat in a minimum of 12 to 24 hours, and protect from freeze or rain for 24hrs.   Somar Industries Ltd, always recommends applying a test area to determine actual coverage.  Apply in an unstretched uniform manner.  Unicoat Elastomeric Coating is designed to be applied in one coat over existing acrylic coatings and two coats over new surfaces achieving total dry film thickness (DFT) of 9 mils.  Estimated coverage rate of 80 square feet per gallon when applied on dense acrylic or mineral substrates.  Coverage rates will change dramatically due to surface porosity and roughness.
